As part of the Annapolis 250 commemoration, 250 Voices will collect and share reflections from across our community in response to a single timeless question:
“What does the pursuit of happiness mean to me?”
Inspired by the words of the Declaration of Independence, this project invites residents of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County to add their voices to the story of our nation’s founding ideals. Each reflection—whether a sentence, a poem, an essay, a piece of artwork, or even a recorded video—will be gathered to showcase the diversity of experiences, perspectives, and hopes that define our community today.
The goal of 250 Voices is to create a living mosaic of ideas that bridges past and present. Just as the founders debated freedom, justice, and happiness in 1776, we continue to define and pursue those ideals in our own ways. By asking our neighbors what happiness means to them, we will highlight both our shared humanity and the unique paths we walk.
The collection of voices will be featured in public exhibitions, digital platforms, and community events throughout the anniversary period. Together, these contributions will remind us that the “pursuit of happiness” is not a relic of history—it is an ongoing journey we shape every day.
Use our submission form below to share what the pursuit of happiness means to you today. We welcome written submissions of up to 500 words, personal photographs, or other pieces of original artwork.
The 250 Voices project also welcomes video and audio submissions. If you would prefer to share your story with us this way, please get in touch with us here.
